Emma Goes to Jail..

A couple weeks ago, I get home from work late after a very long day and let Emma (my German Shorthair) outside to do her thing. I sit down on the couch and I immediately fall asleep.. All night.. When I woke up, I found it odd that Emma wasn’t stretched out in some weird fashion on top of me as she usually is, and I realize I never let her back in.. I panic..

I must have been quite the spectacle- wandering aimlessly down the street in just my pajama bottoms looking for her.. She was gone.. I was SICK..

Kent County Animal Shelter opened at 10:00 a.m. No luck.. I made sure to show their employees a photo, filled out a “lost” form, and went back out searching. I also launched a “find Emma” campaign on Craigslist, etc..

The next day I went back again. Again no luck.. That night Kent County Animal Shelter called (after closing) and told me they thought they’d found her. I went the following morning, and sure enough, it was her.. The little stinker..

After paying $200 dollars for one nights stay, and as it turns out contracting flees, she was free to go.. Or so I thought.. Turns out they needed to update her rabies vaccination, and needed a vet to do so prior to her leaving. BUT their vet wasn’t available till the following day.. Not acceptable..

My vet is nearly an hour away, so that wouldn’t work. The closest vet was on Michigan street, close to the Animal Shelter, so I figured why not try.. 20 minutes later a wonderfully sweet vet showed up and gave Emma her “get out of jail shot”.. Kent County staff said I was the first ever to persuade an outside vet to come into Kent County Animal Shelter to give a vaccination.. Cool, do I get a $200 prize for that??

Anyway, a huge “thank you” to the vets and staff at Northeast Cat & Dog Hospital for all the help, and to my poor mother who drove around looking for Emma while I had to work.. Emma is now happily back at home being the rambunctious puppy that she still is…
