A Fun Photo Project.. Camera, Tripod, and Bungee Cords??

I‘ve always wanted to try this, and never really got around to doing it until recently.. I’ve always been a bit of a car nut, and really like those low angle shots showing the car driving with motion in the shot, while the vehicle is in clear focus. So, I set out on a self-assigned photo project…

Keep reading to see how I did it…

Well, I wasn’t sure exactly how to achieve this effect and the only thing I could think of was to somehow strap a tripod to the front of my truck, hanging low and off to the side, so that’s exactly what I did..

I rolled two of the legs in a blanket, and bungee’d the contraption to my grill.. I know, I’m a moron… But hey, it worked..

You can see by the two photos to the right the angle at which I positioned the camera. I then hopped in, began driving, and with the use of remote triggers, I was able to capture some pretty cool shots. If you would like to try this, and your camera does not have remote capabilities, I suppose you could achieve the same shots using your camera’s timer, although it would most likely be a bit frustrating getting out every 10-20 seconds to trip the shutter again..

Here’s another from back in the field..

I varied the shutter speed a little and generally ranged between 1/15th of a second up through around 1/100th of a second. The shots I personally liked best were in the 1/25th to 1/40th second range since they show motion on the ground yet the Jeep logo is still sharp enough to read.

All in all it was a fun project that pretty much anyone can do. So get out there, strap a tripod to the exterior of your vehicle, and drive around and take some cool photos. Just make sure the tripod is well secured… :]

Stumble it!
