A Quick Note About The Photos On This Site..

Well, I suppose it was bound to happen eventually, I just didn’t expect to have such a strong feeling toward it when it did..

On a recent post that included photos that I had taken, and posted, I was accused plagairizing the photos in the post.

Let me be VERY VERY clear here: I have taken every single image that I have EVER posted on this website. In the future, I will have taken every single image that I will ever post on this website. Is that clear enough?? I surely hope so..

To unjustly accuse a photographer of plagiarizing photos they have taken is basically the worst insult you could possibly give. When the accusation is completely unfounded, the insult is even worse. You should not accuse someone of plariarism without some sort of proof. That’s crap..

Stumble it!

I hear ya! What some people use is that “they’ve seen it somewhere else”.. but what a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that some shots are just taken from the same angle and it’s gonna look the same as others. And lighting conditions will vary, and so on.

As a photographer myself, I understand ryan. totally. I can’t ever imagine that you would ever post a shot you didn’t shoot without stating that fact.

Ha, i knew they where too good for you to have taken them!
    ONLY JOKING.
Take it as a compliment that your photographs are so good, its hard to believe that you took them.
Keep up the good work ;)

It’s sad that people have to play like this, they can’t accept the fact that perhaps someone once stood in the same place as them, and took a photo. Just think of all the tourist places that have a little plaque that says “photo spot” and people stand there and take a picture of the same view. I suppose that would be plagarism? Not at all. This person obviously needs to think before they accuse others.

And after comparing the photos, there really is no way anyone would accuse you of plagarism of this photo, yours by far is so much more amazing. Anyone can clearly see it.

    Keep on keeping on….. :)

I am really surprised that people would accuse you of plagerism.

Your photos are amazing and I hope you continue to show them to us.

This probably shouldn’t go in a comment, but…

I agree with what Becky (I think it was she) who mentioned that that particular person’s comments are not always nice. Perhaps tact gets lost in translation? LOL

I know just how you feel - but I wouldn’t worry - your photos have your ‘essence’ in each and every one of them.

    :-)

I’ve had comments from the person that have made me think ‘wait a minute…’

I put it down to English as a second language. I hope that’s what it is.

Did you mail her Ryan? I certainly would have!

Ryan,,I am sure she really didn’t mean what she said,,,And after you explained how you took it,,it left her feeling like she might have put her foot in her mouth. Don’t take it to heart,,,life is to short …You take awesum shots,,,Keep it up. As for me,,some of my shots are cartoons and jokes,,,they are not mine nor do I claim them,,,and some of my shots are posted a lot,,,my ADD and demtia forgets I have just posted them,,LOL

That really sucks about the accusation & I don’t blame you for being so deffensive. But I love your photos & believe you took them all on your own… you do very well, brush it off & post some more ASAP, I’m waiting to see more of you glorious photos :)

As some of the others have said, certain things may be lost in translation. It’s not always easy to express oneself in a second, or third language. Even for a native speaker, things sometimes come across in ways that the author didn’t intend, because we cannot read facial expressions or hear tone of voice when we leave comments.

Your photos and photo-manipulations are beautiful, creativel and frequently stunning, and I can only imagine how much it must hurt to have someone accuse you of plagiarism.

I look forward to seeing more of your amazing photos.

Couldn’t have said it better myself Ryan.

    Hellooooo?

  • Ryan // Mar 14, 2007 at 12:16 pm

Well everyone, I sincerely appreciate your unified support.

I’m the type of person that would generally have ignored such a comment, and would not think too much about it. But as I mentioned, a posting in such a public place as a web page, for the world to see, I did feel like I had to defend myself and my work.

I’m not the type to hold grudges, and if the “lost in translation” theory that was brought up is in fact what happened, then so be it. I most certainly did not read it that way, and wanted to be very clear to all the visitors of this site that every image I post are mine, are copyrighted to me, and as an artist would never in a million years try to take credit for someone else’s work. I just wouldn’t do it.

So, thanks again to everyone. I am so lucky to have so many wonderful people who visit here!!

    Eff, em!
You know you took the shots, its your acomplishment.

I get that there is a fine line between inspiration and copy-catism, but that’s photography. We all have cameras, but its what our eyes see that is the difference.

Two people can see the same thing and take 2 totally different pictures of it. That’s not plagiarism or copy-cat, its inspiration. We all see differently.

    Ok, me again.
I just went to see her pics. Obviously they are not the same. (first clue, if you need one, the people at the entrance) I have seen miss G around the blog block and she is a bit odd.
Don’t let it get to you.
