Dreams of Fly-Fishing for Trout..

Tying One On - Ryan Velting

With winter ever so slowly coming to an end, I’m beginning to get the itch that I always get this time of year - to get back out on the river, flyrod in hand. While I have flyfished this winter during some fairly cold weather, its always very short-lived. Its just too cold to spend too much time out there, and usually is unproductive from a fish-catching perspective. I just can’t WAIT until this horrible snow melts away and spring finally arrives..

Stumble it!

    1. What is that creature?

    2. Why is it being fitted with a pair of spectacles?

    3. How in the world was this picture taken? Up close, central, low aspect, and yet, two hands seen in the frame?

    4. I really hope your strep throat clears up. I’m wishing you all the best…

So the million dollar question is….

…. you took that picture how? Do you have another appendage you’re not telling us about?

    Oh wait. Don’t answer that!

    ;-)

Well Hey Guys! I am up for a few munites before going back to bed, and you both gave me a bit of a laugh tonight!

Rory - I’ll try to answer your questions.
    1. This is a Marabou Muddler fly. This particular fly falls into the streamer” category and is generally cast as close as possible toward the river bank, logs, or any other structure that may have trout hiding under cover. It is then “stripped” in in quick abrupt pulls almost creating a swimming action. What you are usually going to get fishing this type of fly is a reactionary strike.

    2. Ha… That line almost does lok like glasses. This really made me laugh.

    3. Hmmmm…… :]

    4. Yes, I think the worst is (hopefully) over, just really tired and physically run-down. Have slept a lot. Thanks so much. Will be happy to get back to the “normal” Ryan..

Hello Kai! So, if I answer, I get a million bucks??? Woooohoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Not knowing how I did this is probably driving you insane, huh? :)

My oldest got a fishing rod for her December birthday from her best friend. So it looks like we’ll be hitting the rivers come April too. Hopefully I remember how to use it!

[…] I’m sure he won’t mind me linking to this, but Ryan Velting has a photo of a small water creature being fitted with a tiny pair of spectacles. Curious. But what will really drive you insane is trying to work out how he took the picture - and he ain’t saying. Get over there and grill him for it, will ya. Or take some wild guesses. We fish for rainbow most of the summer and usually have the best luck with a black leech. We go lake fishing and my husband likes to go river fishing. We fly fish on both lake and river. I am an amateur but he has been fishing for about 60 years. First in the UK and now here in northern Canada. I caught a 5 1/2 lb rainbow last year out of a small local lake using a black leech.
