Fish, Fish, and More Fish..

My Fishing - Ryan Velting
Fishing 2 - Ryan Velting

Fishing 3 - Ryan Velting

Fishing 4 - Ryan Veltingfishin’ buddy Kevin and I headed out for an evening of fishing to Lake Bella Vista where I grew up, up in Rockford. Although the night started out a bit slow, things got a little crazy as the night progressed..Bass after bass, followed by numerous pike..

All in all, we EACH landed around 30 large-mouthed bass, all 13-14 inches or larger, and each caught a handful of pike. Kevin brought his camera along, and throughout the night, we took turns snapping photos of a lot of the fish. It was really a great night of fishing.

We didn’t keep any of the fish we caught.. Figured we’ll throw them back and catch them again another day..

Thanks Kev for getting the great photos, and to Jamey for having us out

No bear attacks to report this time. Perhaps with a little luck next time we wade the river I’ll have something a little more exciting to report..

Stumble it!

That’s totally awesome! I love your phrase “catch them another day”! Good stuff! I’m glad it was such a successful getaway!

It’s always a great day on the lake whether you catch fish or not! Looks like you had fabulous weather too!

What a great time you all had. Great shots too. I don’t fish, but we see people fishing all the time on the Delta. Our dog Little Bit loves to watch them too. She will watch them all day long if she can. She wants the fish. Have a great day Ryan. :)

Back again to check out the fish (ok you in shorts!)

Ha! was it really warm enough to wear shorts at night? I don’t think it ever would be over here.

So, Ry, what were you using? Or is that a secret?

I have found that Gary Yomato “worms” work great for large mouth and black and green jigs or perch colored spoons for pike!

Claire, HEY!!!! Whats wrong with my shorts??? Its actually my swimming suit.. :] Cheeky bugger….. And yes, it was still in the mid 80’s (F) right up until nearly 2 a.m. Our summers are so messed up that way..

Hi Star. Lets see.. This lake is normally great for worms, but we actually had better luck on spinner bait, light colored ones. I used a variety of white and pink ones, kevin was using some orange, some yellow, and some white. For pike I usually use like you said a perch variant, and they also like rainbow rout look-alikes too!!

We were out fishing for rainbow trout and caught about 20, threw half of them back for another day also and brought the others back to smoke. I have the smoker going now, luckily no bears have caught the scent so far.

  • Claire // Jul 3, 2007 at 12:09 pm

I think it would help :)
